The Tallest Man In the World

The Tallest Man in the World is a play written by Cork-born composer and writer, Ailís Ní Ríain. It was produced as part of the Cork Midsummer Festival 2013 under the direction of Pat Kiernan. Corcadorca presented this intimate and stripped-back production at the end of a three week workshop at the Theatre Development Centre in Triskel Arts Centre.

At first, we meet three separate people telling what appear to be three separate stories, until gradually we realise that we are hearing one voice in different mouths.

As a composer, Ní Ríain’s writing is full of intonation and rhythm. That is what draws her to people and their stories. Prior to this production, she won the Tom Erdhardt Bursary for Playwrights and her recent London debut Desolate Heaven staged at Theatre 503 received an array of fantastic reviews.

Whether taking on classics like Woyzeck, The Hairy Ape or The Merchant of Venice, or new plays by new writers as in this outing, Corcadorca again and again produce exciting and innovative theatre.
