The Hairy Ape

What I am after is to get an audience to leave the theatre with an exultant feeling from seeing somebody on the stage facing life, fighting against the odds, not conquering but, perhaps inevitably, being conquered. The individual life is made significant just by the struggle.
Eugene O’Neill on The Hairy Ape

Corcadorca, famed for staging spectacular theatre in unusual locations, presented The Hairy Ape by Eugene O’Neill in the summer of 2008. Having reinvented Ireland’s Naval Base last Summer for the staging of Woyzeck, this year Corcadorca transformed a vast warehouse in Cork’s docklands for a highly visual promenade production of O’Neill’s epic text.

O’Neill, considered one of America’s greatest playwrights, was awarded 4 Pulitzer prizes, as well as the Nobel prize for literature. This was the first time The Hairy Ape has been staged in Ireland.
