Romeo and Juliet

In 2012, Corcadorca and Cork Opera House joined forces to present a new production of one of Shakespeare’s most famous plays, Romeo and Juliet.

Building on the success of A Winter’s Tale the previous year, Corcadorca presented a modern approach to this classic work. The play embodies the romance and tragedy of life and love, bringing its audience to question their own destinies.

Ever committed to the idea of bringing theatre to all of Cork (not just the audiences of the Opera House), Corcadorca planned an innovative way to include the people of Cork in every night of the play. Declarations of Love was a process by which the people of Cork were invited to share their Declarations of Love in ballot boxes placed at public locations across the city. These declarations were then included in every night of the Romeo and Juliet production.

Love – passionate, intense, aching and pulsating – sits at the heart of director Pat Kiernan’s interpretation of Romeo and Juliet”
